Toronto Homicide Unit is investigating after a 30-year-old man was shot and killed in a drive-by in the Regent Park neighbourhood Sunday night.
Police said officers responded to a call about a shooting around 9:15 p.m. in the Regent and Cole streets area.
Officers arrived on scene to find a man suffering from gunshot wounds to the torso. He was transported to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The victim has been identified as Lemard Champagnie.
Det. Andy Singh told reporters that Champagnie was gunned down by suspects driving a black SUV northbound on Regent Street.
Another man on the street managed to escape into an unlocked house on the street and got away unharmed.
Singh said officers believe the shooting was targeted.
Police are reviewing surveillance footage and are urging any witnesses to come forward.
Champagnie was not known to police, according to Singh.
The incident marks the city’s 23rd homicide of the year.
