One of the longest serving members of the Winnipeg Jets won’t be coming back next season.
The team has put Mark Stuart on unconditional waivers to buy out the last year of the defenceman’s contract.
The move will save the Jets nearly $1.2-million in cap space next season.
“Mark Stuart has been a tremendous leader for the Winnipeg Jets organization on and off the ice for the past six years,” said Jets General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff in a statement. “We are forever grateful for his mentorship to our young players and the ambassador he has been in the community. This was a difficult decision to make and we wish Mark and his family all the best in the future.”
In seven seasons with the franchise, Stuart played 390 games and racked up 53 points.
