Edmonton Oilers re-sign Zack Kassian to 3-year deal

The Edmonton Oilers and forward Zack Kassian have agreed to a three-year contract extension worth a reported $5.85 million.

“It’s no secret that the team we have with McDavid is on the up rise,” Kassian said.

“The city is unbelievable, the fan base is awesome, with the new rink and the team we have, it’s pretty much a no-brainer. I was very happy to get this deal done.”

The Oilers acquired Kassian from Montreal during the 2015-16 season. Since then Kassian has established himself as a reliable power forward type winger for the Oilers, but he feels he still has room to grow into a more offensive player.

“I think I can score,’ said Kassian. “They aren’t expecting me to score 20-30 goals, but there is no doubt in my mind that I can get 10-15 goals each year.”

“I feel I can chip in offensively, but at the same time I know what Edmonton wants me to do and needs me to do for our team to be successful.”

Kassian, 26, registered seven goals and 24 points in 70 regular season games with the Oilers last season. He also chipped in with three goals in 13 playoff games.
