WINNIPEG — The provincial government announced Monday that the drug replacement therapy Suboxone will now be covered under the province’s Pharmacare Program.

The hope is that better access to Suboxone will help combat the opioid crisis in Manitoba.
Health Minister Kelvin Goertzen made the announcement at the Addiction Foundation of Manitoba’s River Point Centre.
“We know opioids like fentanyl are affecting our communities and families, which is why we are enhancing access to suboxone,” Goertzen said.
Suboxone contains Naloxone, the high profile antidote that combats opioids like Fentanyl. It comes in a pill form and decreases cravings, offering relief from withdrawal symptoms for recovering addicts.
