Toronto Maple Leafs announce 2017-2018 season schedule

Toronto Maple Leafs fans will want to mark a few dates in their calendars.

The team’s regular season schedule was revealed on Thursday, a day ahead of the start of the NHL Draft.

Toronto will kick off the season in Winnipeg on Oct. 4.

The first home game, against the New York Rangers, is scheduled for Oct. 7 at the Air Canada Centre.

The highlights in this year’s schedule include Dec. 19,  which is the 100th anniversary of first NHL game day and the first game for the franchise. The Leafs will play the Carolina Hurricanes.

The team will spend New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas against the NHL’s newest additions, the Vegas Golden Knights. The Knights will be in Toronto on Nov. 6.

On Oct. 17, they’ll  face Washington for the first time since their Game 6 elimination in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

They’ll also play the Capitals at an outdoor game in Annapolis, Md., on March 3.

The team will pick 17th in this year’s NHL Draft, which is taking place Friday and Saturday in Chicago.

A bumper crop of rookie players, such as No. 1 draft pick Auston Matthews, were credited with playing big role in the 2016-2017 season, which saw the Leafs clinch a playoffs spot for the first time since 2013.

Matthews was presented the league’s rookie of the year prize at a ceremony on Wednesday.

The pre-sale for season tickets begins on July 11.
