Middlesex OPP confirm remains found at a residential construction site in Komoka are human, but have no forensic interest.
Workers found the remains on Wednesday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. at the development near Oxbow Dr. and Queen St.
On Thursday, a forensic anthropologist from the Office of the Chief Coroner attended the scene.
“Coincidentally, there was a forensic science class happening at the Ontario Police College,” Const. Max Gomez told AM980.
“The anthropologist… brought out the class and it ended up being a little bit of on-the-job training for them.”
The investigation has revealed the remains are human and “historical in nature” but of no forensic interest.
“The fact that they have no forensic interest is that they do not cause the police to engage in a criminal investigation or anything to that effect.”
The site has since been released and the investigation into the remains has been turned over to the Registrar of Burial Sites, War Graves, Abandoned Cemeteries, and Cemetery Closures which will be working closely with the developer.
