The three-day, hands-on, outdoor learning experience is meant to educate students about water treatment, conservation, technology, science and protection.

The children are interacting with industry experts at about 30 tents which have been set up throughout the festival.

Andrew Grice, Hamilton’s director of water, says the hope is that they’ll take that knowledge home and be “champions in their community.”

Since the event was first held a decade ago along Hamilton’s west harbour, Grice adds that 830 classes representing about 28,000 students have come through the program.
