Province’s police watchdog investigating after West End crash sends one to hospital

Manitoba’s civilian police watchdog is investigating after a car crash in the city’s West End sent one person to hospital Tuesday night.

Police said the crash happened around 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of Ellice Avenue and Toronto Street.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) “assumed responsibility for this investigation” according to a news release Wednesday afternoon.

The IIU said officers saw a black Ford Fusion travelling south down Toronto Street towards Ellice Avenue and “activated their emergency equipment”.

The suspect truck attempted to cross Ellice Avenue and hit another vehicle. The driver of that vehicle suffered two broken ribs from the crash.

The suspect fled on foot but was caught and arrested.
