UPDATE: Body of man found near Richmond’s Terra Nova Park identified

The body of a man discovered near Richmond’s Terra Nova Park has now been identified as 28-year-old Richmond resident Muzaffer Darwaish.

Police say Darwaish was last seen leaving his residence on the evening of April 23. He was known to police.

RCMP say the victim suffered gunshot wounds, and the death appears to be targeted.

The discovery of his body shut down public access into park Monday afternoon.

Richmond RCMP confirmed to Global News they were called out to an incident near the park in the 2800-block of River Road early Monday morning.

The investigation was deemed a homicide and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took conduct. IHIT investigators are working in partnership with the Richmond RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Section and the BC Coroner’s Service to gather and review evidence.
