Vehicle strikes pedestrian, crashes into famed photography studio in west end

Toronto Police have portions of Dundas Street West closed off following a collision that caused a gas leak, and resulted in a pedestrian being sent to hospital with injuries.

Police said officers responded to a call around 2:12 a.m. about a collision near Bloor and Margueretta streets Saturday.

According to police, a vehicle struck a pedestrian and a light standard before crashing into a photography studio, causing the gas leak.

Toronto EMS said the pedestrian, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital with a fractured leg as well as minor cuts and abrasions.

The studio belongs to acclaimed Canadian photographer George Pimentel.

Anthony Lewis, 29, of Pickering, has been arrested. He is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop at scene of accident causing bodily harm, failure to stop at the scene of an accident and driving while under suspension.

Dundas Street was closed from Brock to Lansdowne avenues as gas workers assessed the scene, but all lanes have since been reopened.
