The northbound lanes of 97 Street were closed for several hours near 117 Avenue on Saturday as police investigated a “serious” single-vehicle crash.
Police announced the road closure shortly after 5 p.m. and said the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 36-year-old woman, was rushed to hospital in serious condition. At around 8:20 p.m., police said the street had been reopened.
They said her condition has since been downgraded to “critical.”
Police said officers were called to the scene at around 3:30 p.m. after a vehicle hit a parked vehicle.
“It looks like the vehicle was travelling northbound on 97 Street with no particular reason as to why it struck the parked vehicle,” Sgt. Pierre Lemire said. “It’s possible that sun glare was a factor.”
According to police, alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
