The SPCA carried out a warrant at a well-known property in Langley on Monday.
Seventeen animals were seized: 12 dogs, four cats and a rabbit.
Marcie Moriarty of the BC SPCA said they had received reports of “animals that weren’t receiving care. What we did find on the property supported that conclusion.”
“There’s not an animal in this house that didn’t have food, water, a clean environment, love,” said Sandra Simans, who had animals seized in Monday’s raid. “What more can you do?”
Simans has a long history with the SPCA.
Back in September 2016, 88 animals were seized from her property on 216 Street. Forty-five dogs, 18 cats and 24 farm animals were seized. Three of the animals needed to be euthanized. Simans was fined more than $80,000.
Simans was also the target of an SPCA raid in 2012, where dozens of animals were seized. Simans later sued the SPCA for defamation and won. SPCA officials had alleged Simans injured a dog when in fact she had rescued an injured animal.
Moriarty said Simans will have 14 days to seek the return of the animals in Monday’s raid. The animals will remain in the care of the SPCA and there has been no decision on potential charges.
