A Huron County man has been charged with arson after a fire broke out early Saturday morning at the intersection of Highway 4 and Highway 8 in Clinton.

Fire crews from three municipalities were called to the scene around 5:30 a.m. Saturday for a structure fire at a well-known commercial building.

Criminal Investigators from Huron County OPP, West Region Criminal Operations, and OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit are treating this fire as arson and have reason to believe that the fire was set deliberately.

A 47-year-old man from Central Huron has been charged with arson – disregard for human life and fail to comply with probation order under the Criminal Code. The suspect was held for a bail hearing on Sunday.

Highway 4 (Albert Street) between Huron Street and Rattenbury Street in Clinton is anticipated to remain closed for the next two days.
