Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) is advising the public and businesses that fake Canadian bills with Chinese characters are being used in the city.
Since late February, there have been at least 15 reports of counterfeit currency being used at different locations such as gas stations and fast food restaurants.
The economic crime unit said the fake bills have blue Chinese characters written on them. SPS officials said the writings translate to “not to be used as real currency” and “bill to be used for counting practice.”

Additionally, the fake money feels like paper as opposed to the new polymer notes.
Officials said suspects are also cutting out the translucent portion from a real bill and replacing it on the fake currency.
The fraudulent bills vary in denomination and are described as being of poor quality.
