River Linklater, 3 others charged with murder in Pelican Narrows, Sask. death

Mounties have laid a murder charge against River Blade Storm Linklater after a teenager died in the northern Saskatchewan community of Pelican Narrows.

At around 1:20 a.m. CT on Feb. 21, 2017, Pelican Narrows RCMP received information that a 16-year-old boy had been taken to the local health centre for treatment of gunshot wounds.

Mark Clarence Michel, 16, was pronounced dead.

Investigators determined that Michel and a 17-year-old girl had left a residence in Pelican Narrows and then encountered other people.

Some sort of altercation then took place.

The girl did not require medical treatment.

Linklater, 22, was identified as a suspect and arrested without incident at a local residence at around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

He has been charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder and participation in a criminal organization. He is scheduled to make his first appearance in Sandy Bay provincial court on Thursday.

Linklater and Michel are from Pelican Narrows.

On March 9, police also arrested 19-year-old River Jason James Charles, 22-year-old Layton Adolph McCallum and a 17-year-old boy and charged them with first-degree murder and participation in a criminal organization.

The homicide investigation is ongoing and an autopsy was scheduled to take place on Feb. 22, 2017 in Saskatoon.

Pelican Narrows in approximately 510 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon.
