People were asked to stay away from the northwest Red Deer neighbourhood while police conducted their investigation. Neighbouring residents were asked to stay in their homes and the nearby Oriole Park School was put on hold and secure as a precaution.

Shortly before 1 p.m., RCMP said the call was a false report.

“RCMP take all reports of potential public safety issues very seriously, and responded to the report with a large police presence including Police Dog Services,” RCMP said in a media release early Wednesday afternoon.

The hold and secure at Oriole Park School has since been lifted and people are free to go about their daily activities in the area. RCMP said there is no public safety concern.
