Attempted robbery, pellet gun shooting outside Halifax Walmart

HALIFAX – A 32-year-old man is facing charges after an attempted robbery and pellet gun shooting incident at the Halifax Shopping Centre.

According to Halifax Regional Police, the man allegedly tried to rob an elderly woman in the parking lot of Walmart, shortly after 5:00 p.m. Thursday.

After several people confronted the man, police allege the man fired plastic pellets at them, using an AirSoft pistol. Police said the woman fled the area immediately.

Joe Wilson, the duty manager at one of the businesses located at the shopping centre, was coming out of Walmart when he noticed the suspect.

He said the man walked into the store and started yelling into the parking lot.

“Then I heard a ‘pop pop’ and then a lady was screaming after that,” Wilson said. “Then I heard another ‘pop pop’ and the next thing I seen was a gentleman running up the parking lot toward the [Mumford] bus terminal.”

Const. Pierre Bourdages said three mall security guards detained the suspect. A witness captured this video of security guards holding down a man at the Mumford Road bus terminal after the incident took place.

Police arrested the man shortly after and charged him with robbery and weapons offences.

He’s due to appear in court Friday morning.
