Winter storm warnings are in effect for all of Nova Scotia and much of New Brunswick Thursday, as a band of heavy snow and high winds are expected to sweep across the Matitimes in the afternoon and overnight.

According to Environment Canada, “hazardous winter conditions” are expected for the region with anywhere from 20-40 centimetres of snow expected to fall before precipitation turns to ice pellets.
Mixed with high winds of 80-100 km/h, it’s expected blowing snow will reduce visibility.
The weather service says a deepening low pressure system will approach the province late Thursday into Friday morning.

Environment Canada says winter storm warnings come when “multiple types of severe weather are expected to occur together.”
