The City of Calgary has announced a snow route parking ban will go into effect Monday at 6 p.m.
During the ban, parking will be temporarily restricted on designated snow routes for up to 72 hours.
Snow routes are located on major roadways, collector roads and most bus routes and can be identified by blue signs with a white snowflake.
This is the first snow route parking ban for Calgary in more than three years.
The parking ban helps city crews clear routes from curb to curb as efficiently and safely as possible, as snow clearing operations continue.
“Crews have been working around the clock since the snow started falling on Friday afternoon,” City of Calgary roads maintenance manager Bill Biensch said. “Snow route parking bans support snow plowing operations by removing parked vehicles from the streets and allowing crews to clear snow from Calgary roads more efficiently.”
“Our goal is always to keep the largest amount of Calgarians moving safely as quickly as possible.”

Snow route exemptions
According to the City of Calgary’s website, vehicles can continue to park in ParkPlus zones on snow routes during the day (from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.) Monday to Saturday. However, parking is not permitted in ParkPlus zones from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. when a ban is in effect.
On-street handicap zones located along snow routes will be exempt from the parking ban at all times.
Alternate parking options
According to the Calgary Parking Authority (CPA), Calgarians can park their vehicles for free between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. in any CPA parkade or surface lot for the duration of the snow route parking ban.
