22-year-old man killed in targeted shooting in Surrey: IHIT

A 22-year-old man is dead following a targeted shooting in Surrey Monday night.

It happened just outside the McDonald’s in the 12900-block of 96 Avenue, near Prince Charles Boulevard just before 9:15 p.m.

When police arrived on the scene, officers found an unresponsive man in his SUV, which had crashed into the golden arches outside the restaurant. Paramedics were called and despite their efforts to revive the man, he did not survive.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was called in and have been working with Surrey RCMP to gather evidence.

The victim has been identified Karanpartap Waraich, who is known to police.

“I heard three gunshots and ran outside to my patio and I saw a vehicle crash into the golden arches,” one witness told Global News. “I ran out and it didn’t look like he made it.”

IHIT Staff Sgt. Jennifer Pound said in a statement that “there are many more investigative avenues that IHIT needs to concentrate on… Thankfully, there were no other victims as a result of this brazen shooting.”
