Nearly 100 malnourished and injured cats and dogs were seized on Jan. 16, from an alleged puppy mill in Glenarbon, Australia, in the northeast state of Queensland, in what rescue groups are calling one of the worst animal neglect cases they’ve ever seen.
“There was one dog that was sharing a small space with a dog that was deceased and there were the remains of a number of corpses lying near dogs that were tethered,” RSPCA Queensland chief inspector Daniel Young told ABC News.
In a video released by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, you can see feces, animal carcasses still tied to chains and thin puppies searching for food. The video posted above by Global News has been edited to remove graphic images.
“There was inadequate shelter and water and a number of the dogs were carrying injuries that needed urgent veterinary treatment,” Young said.
In a statement, the RSPCA said they mostly found Australian and American bulldogs, American Staffordshire bull terriers, pit bulls and French bulldogs on the property.
A total of 91 dogs and 10 cats were seized. They are currently being cared for at an animal welfare shelter.
The RSPCA said in a statement, police are currently in the early stages of an investigation but expect many people will be charged.
