2 charged with murder in death of Saddle Lake First Nation man

A man and a woman in their 20s have been charged with second-degree murder in the death of 25-year-old Robert Stamp on Nov. 8.

At approximately 4 a.m., St. Paul RCMP were called to a home on the on Saddle Lake First Nation, which is about 170 kilometres northeast of Edmonton, to reports of a shooting.

When they arrived, police could not find the victim, Robert Stamp, but did find “significant evidence at the scene that foul play was likely to have occurred,” RCMP said in a release.

That same day, RCMP asked for the public’s help finding Stamp. They said his 2009 silver Dodge Journey was found near Highway 15 west of Bruderheim between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m. and his disappearance was being treated as suspicious.

The RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit North took over the investigation.

On Dec. 18, police arrested and charged Jordan Steinhauer and Sara Brertton, both 26, of Saddle Lake and Edmonton, with second-degree murder.

They’re both scheduled to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on Thursday, Dec. 22.
