Donald Trump responds to Michelle Obama: ‘We’ve got tremendous hope’

Donald Trump fired back at Michelle Obama on Saturday after the First Lady said that “we’re feeling what not having hope feels like” during an interview with Oprah Winfrey that was previewed on CBS on Friday.

“We’ve got tremendous hope,” the President-elect said to cheering supporters at the final stop of his post-election victory tour in Mobile, Alabama. “We have tremendous hope, and we have tremendous promise and tremendous potential.”

“I actually think she made that statement not meaning it the way it came out, I really do because I met with President Obama and Michelle Obama in the White House… and she could not have been nicer.”

But as Trump praised the Obamas for treating him so nicely when he visited the White House shortly after the election, many in the crowd booed the first family.

During her interview with Winfrey, Obama said that hope is “a necessary concept” that President Barack Obama saw as more than just “a nice slogan to get votes.”

But Trump reiterated his optimism for the country’s prospects under his presidency.

“This country has such potential. You watch. It’s going to be so special, things are going to happen like you haven’t seen happen in many, many decades,” he said.
