WINNIPEG — A 23-year-old man from Quebec has been arrested after allegations that he forced a woman to work as an escort at various Winnipeg hotels.
Winnipeg Police have 23-year-old Garlin Voyant Candy, from Quebec, in custody after responding to a check well-being call for a 23-year-old woman Friday.
Winnipeg Police said it was reported that the female was being held against her will and forced to work as an escort.
According to officers, she had been driven to Winnipeg from Montreal on December 4, 2016 for the sole purpose of being an escort.
Officers said she was threatened if she failed to comply.
The woman has since been taken in to care and Garlin Candy was arrested and charged.
Candy has been charged with three charges because of his alleged involvement. Including trafficking in persons, advertising sexual services, and assault with a weapon.
A 19-year-old woman was also identified by officers, claiming to be Candy’s girlfriend.
The Winnipeg Police Service Counter Exploitation Unit is continuing to investigate.
