Cuisinart is recalling roughly 8 million food processors with riveted blades, including 300,000 in Canada, amid dozens of complaints from consumers who have found broken pieces of the blade in processed food.
The joint recall between Health Canada and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says consumers should immediately stop using the food processor’s riveted blade and contact the company for a free replacement blade.
The recall involves food processors with the following model numbers:
- CFP-9, CFP 11
- DFP-7, DFP-11, DFP-14
- DLC-5, DLC-7, DLC-8, DLC-10, DLC-XP, DLC-2007, DLC-2009, DLC-2011, DLC-2014, DLC-3011, DLC-3014
- EV-7, EV-10, EV-11, EV-14
- KFP-7
- MP-14
Health Canada said the food processor’s riveted blade can crack over time causing small metal pieces of the blade to break off into the food.
Cuisinart’s parent company, Conair, said that as of Nov. 30 there have been 10 reports of cracked or broken riveted blades in Canada, including 2 reports of mouth laceration or tooth injury. In the United States, the company has received 69 reports of consumers finding broken pieces of the blade in processed food including 30 reports of mouth lacerations or tooth injuries.
