Reba McEntire is heading back to TV, thanks to a new script by Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry.
The country music star is set to headline a series that has been put into development at ABC, according to Variety. The as-yet untitled hour-long series is described as a “Southern Gothic soap opera,” set in motion after an act of terrorism takes place at a Fourth of July parade in Oxblood, Kentucky.

“The FBI sends a cocky agent of Middle Eastern descent to investigate. He teams with the mercurial local sheriff to uncover secrets far darker than either could have ever imagined,” says The Hollywood Reporter about the TV show’s plot.
In addition to writing, Cherry is set to serve as executive producer and showrunner. Deadline reports that McEntire, Sabrina Wind, Mindy Shulthesis and Michael Hanel will also be executive producers on the upcoming sitcom.

People on social media were very excited when McEntire shared the news.
The forthcoming show will mark McEntire’s first time back on TV since ABC sitcom Malibu Country, which ran for one season from 2012 to 2013. Prior to that, she was in the popular WB sitcom Reba, which ran for six seasons.
