RCMP say drivers on several roads and highways throughout the region were “unprepared for the slippery conditions.”

“We all have a role to play in keeping each other safe,” Cpl. Dal Hutchinson said in a release. “Slow down, be aware of other motorists and adjust your driving for the weather and road conditions.”

RCMP recommend drivers check weather and road conditions before heading out, as well as be sure to clear all the snow from vehicles.

When on the roads, RCMP remind drivers to do the following:

  • Turn on headlights
  • Turn on taillights as necessary
  • Slow down, allow more time to stop on slippery streets
  • Leave extra space between you and the vehicle ahead of you
  • Remember that all-wheel and four-wheel drive vehicles reduce your chances of getting stuck, they don’t make it easier to stop.
