Over 200 ‘little elves’ volunteered to wrap Christmas presents at Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf for the Little Elves Foundation over weekend.
The organization is dedicated to providing support and comfort to isolated people living with HIV/Aids, throughout Canada, with an emphasis on the holiday season.
As the volunteers wrapped 4,000 gifts for the 25th anniversary of the charitable organization, founder Sylvain Duhamel said people living with HIV still need emotional support because of the stigma still attached to the virus.
“There’s no solution to poverty yet, except that we have to help them,” Duhamel said. “And the people living with AIDS are still very isolated [based] on what we heard from all the different organizations that we help.”
The gifts range from practical items like wool socks, to tasty treats such cookies and candies, and are destined for children and adults alike.
The Little Elves Foundation distributes its presents to organizations who reached out to the elves for help. These groups then pass on the gifts to people in need.
The packages staying in Montreal will be distributed on Christmas Eve.
