How much sugar and how many calories are in your favourite holiday drink?

Some popular holiday drinks could clock in as many calories as a meal – Dec 8, 2016

It’s the season for gingerbread lattes, peppermint mochas and chestnut praline hot chocolates. But how many calories and how much sugar are you taking in?

These holiday drinks are great to sip on while Christmas shopping, catching up with friends or to warm you up from the cold, but try not to drink them too much this month, experts warn.

“Sometimes there are enough calories to make a small meal in a drink. And we know calories from drinks don’t fill us up the same way as calories from food,” said Jennifer Sygo, a Cleveland Clinic registered dietitian.

“These drinks are surprisingly high in calories and they don’t contain nutrient-dense calories either. It’s mostly sugar,” warned Katie Jessop, a sports nutritionist at the Canadian Institute of Sport Ontario.
