Brandon Wheat Kings swing trade for Boissevain product

The Brandon Wheat Kings are giving Meyer Nell another shot at playing in the Western Hockey League.

The Wheat Kings acquired Nell in a trade with the Red Deer Rebels on Tuesday.

Nell, 19, played the last two seasons with the Rebels. But this season he was playing senior hockey with the Boissevain Border Kings of the Tiger Hills Hockey League. The forward scored nine goals with 15 assists in 121 career WHL games. He’s also currently enrolled at the University of Manitoba.

Nell is also a former member of the Southwest Cougars of the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League. He scored six goals with 22 points for the Cougars in the 2012-13 season.

In return for Nell, the Rebels receive a conditional 10th round draft pick in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft.

Nell is expected to join the team shortly before the club’s Christmas break. The Wheatties are currently in the midst of an eight game western road swing.
