The RCMP said it is investigating after a 33-year-old woman was killed when her SUV collided with a fire truck in Whitecourt, Alta., early Friday morning.

Police said officers were called to a crash at Dahl Drive and Highway 43 at about 6 a.m.

According to the Mounties, a Whitecourt Municipal Fire Rescue Tanker was en route to a structure fire when it collided with an SUV at the intersection.

They said witnesses told them the fire truck’s emergency lights were on at the time of the crash.

The RCMP said the woman in the SUV – the lone occupant of the vehicle – was pronounced dead at the scene. The two people inside the fire truck were not injured.
