Man steals $70 in merchandise from dollar store leading to violent pursuit in Vancouver

Vancouver Police are still looking for a suspect after a robbery, followed by a violent pursuit, at a local dollar store.

Sgt. Brian Montague with the Vancouver Police says at about 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, two loss prevention officers from the Dollarama Store on Cordova Street witnessed a man stealing about $70 in merchandise and leave without paying.

When confronted outside the store behind Harbour Centre on Hastings Street, the suspect allegedly began to fight before reaching into his pocket and pulling out a knife.

One of the store security members sustained a very minor cut to his right hand.

The man ran down the Harbour Centre parkade and police were not able to make an arrest at the time, but did locate the weapon and some discarded clothing.

Investigators will be trying to obtain video from the store and are confident they will identify the man responsible.

Once a suspect is identified, Montague says officers will try to locate him or request a warrant for his arrest.
