It appears a Grinch-like character or more is striking the off-island town of Notre-Dame-de-L’île-Perrot.
A rash of outdoor thefts has seen Christmas decorations stolen from the front lawns of people’s homes.
Specifically, laser projectors that flash lights on homes.
The thefts are usually occurring at night while families are asleep and their homes are lit up with the decorative colours.
“I tell my kids we can’t buy another one. It’s like that. Someone stole it,” Valérie Hamelin, an area resident, told Global News.
Even the mayor was a victim.
Danie Deschenes had her laser projector stolen last weekend and her wooden nutcracker smashed.
“I’m sure it’s a group of people because at this point, they can’t do that just on their own for no reason,” Deschênes told Global News. “But it breaks my heart.”
The mayor said she has informed the police and wants them to patrol the quiet residential streets more often.
But even as the lights are being stolen, the residents’ Christmas spirit isn’t being broken.
”We have the Christmas spirit,” Deschênes said.
And that’s something no criminal can steal.
