Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall has created a new government committee to look at rising crime rates in the province.
The six-member Saskatchewan Party committee will look at rising rural property crime rates and police presence in rural areas.

It will also look at increases in gun and gang activity in urban centres and highly addictive drugs such as fentanyl.
“One of the main concerns I hear as I travel around Saskatchewan is crime,” Wall said in a statement.
“I have asked this new committee to focus on causes and make recommendations on what the province and our partners, like municipalities and police forces, can do to reduce crime.”

The committee will consult with municipalities, police and other organizations before making its recommendations to Saskatchewan’s justice minister, cabinet and the government caucus.
