WINNIPEG — RCMP are investigating in the River East area Monday morning, after two people were rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds.
Around 6:15 a.m., officers responded to reports of a gunshot victim in the area of Raleigh Street between Glenway and Foxgrove avenues in East St. Paul.
“I heard three shots. A pop, pop, pop,” said one resident. “Minutes later there were police sirens.”

When officers arrived on scene, there were two gunshot victims, a woman and a man. Both were transported to hospital in critical condition, but have been upgraded to stable.
Residents who live in the area said the shooting is unnerving.
“I just moved here so it’s scary,” said Tony Calvert. “It takes a person by surprise. You don’t expect that at all.”
Police blocked off Glenway and Foxgrove avenues from Monson to Raleigh streets as part of the investigation.
RCMP said there are reports that a light-coloured, four-door car with three men was seen leaving the area at the time. It is believed the car is connected to the shooting incident.
“It’s upsetting forsure,” said area resident Dwaine Carlson. “You don’t expect it in this neighbourhood. It makes me wonder who’s in the neighbourhood or why that happened.”
RCMP said this was not a random act and they have no suspects in custody. While police said there is no threat to public safety, residents are still anxious.
“You sort of figure it’s going to be in another part of the city, but not this area,” said Gerald Smith. “I guess no area is safe.”
The RCMP canine unit and the forensic identification unit were also assisting in the investigation.
