WINNIPEG – The top-ranked high school volleyball teams in the province are still standing following the Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association’s AAAA quarterfinals.
The Lord Selkirk Royals got past the St. Paul’s Crusaders, the defending boys champion, in straight sets on Saturday. The Royals enter this year’s playoffs as the number one seeded team and are looking for their first provincial title since 2013.
Selkirk will face the Vincent Massey Vikings in Friday’s semifinals. The Brandon-based school upset the Mennonite Brethren Hawks 3-1 to advance.
In the other boys’ quarterfinals, the Miles Macdonell Buckeyes beat the Linden Christian Wings 3-2 and the Dakota Lancers knocked out the Garden City Fighting Gophers in five sets.

Girls’ action saw the first ranked Westwood Warriors squeak past the River East Kodiaks in five sets. Westwood has never won a MHSAA AAAA girls’ volleyball title.
The Vincent Massey Vikings join the Warriors in Wednesday’s semifinals after sweeping the Mennonite Brethren Hawks. Last year’s champion, the St. Mary’s Flames, picked up a 3-0 victory over the Portage Saints. The Lord Selkirk Royals downed the Vincent Massey Trojans 3-2.
The provincial finals will be played on Dec. 5 at the Investors Group Athletic Centre.
