Mitchell, who hails from Kelowna, B.C., has been dating Feldman for the past four years, and he refers to her as his “maingel.” You can spot her in Feldman’s now-famous Today show performance as the Corey’s Angels’ DJ.

Apparently, Mitchell and Feldman feared new immigration laws under the presidency of Donald Trump, who has promised to tighten up laws and deport people living illegally in the United States.

Feldman, 45, proposed to Mitchell, 27, on their fourth anniversary in Palm Springs, Calif.

“I kinda chickened out and did a written proposal by writing a note with two checkboxes, one for yes and the other for no,” said Feldman to People magazine. “Of course there was a ring in there with the note. Luckily she said yes.”

At the start of their relationship, the couple wasn’t planning on ever getting married, but after Trump’s election victory, Feldman felt it was the right thing to do.

“She was very surprised, excited and started crying,” said Feldman. “She was surprised because we had both been so anti-marriage since we met. But seeing as she’s Canadian and with Trump coming in, we didn’t want to risk being separated by new immigration laws.”

While Mitchell is currently focusing on her career, Feldman, who has a 12-year-old son, Zen, with his second wife Susie Sprague, doesn’t rule out more children down the road.

“I have always said I wanna make sure I get it right the first time, and [that] Zen comes out perfectly, well-balanced, before I even think about taking on any more responsibility. Courtney is young and she has a career in modelling and music, she would rather keep her body in good shape for now,” Feldman adds. “She’s getting good practice with Zen. If we ever were to choose that option it would be much further down the road. Paul McCartney style.”
