Knuckleheads, is an animated series based on the Quebec phenomenon Têtes à Claques, hugely popular for its particular brand of humour.
Knuckleheads came out last January and as Joe Cobden –the actor who voices most of the characters –said, it was a no-brainer to make an English version of the show.
“Yeah, like 550 million views worldwide on line,” Cobden said.
But making the show wasn’t just about the views, it was about creating a show with a uniquely Canadian flavour.
“We took all the kind of different rural uniquely Canadian personalities and put them in the show populated by a world gone mad.”
Cobden said it’s very much like the French version, in that it celebrates characters that you wouldn’t necessarily see on TV, but you know are out there.
No one is spared when it comes to poking fun at regional stereotypes, with Cobden even adjusting the dialect of the characters, so that each province will recognize itself.
“Knuckleheads is a fun, silly show for kids, but it’s edgy,” he said. “There’s some smart, adult humour that’s mixed in; it’s a show for everyone.”
Knuckleheads airs on Teletoon every Saturday and Sunday at 9:30 p.m.
