IKEA expects crowds of excited shoppers to line up at midnight the night before the furniture giant’s Winnipeg grand opening later this month.

The 395,000 square foot store at Kenaston Boulevard and Sterling Lyon Parkway will open its doors to the public for the first time at 9 am, November 28th. A public relations company hired to manage the opening day hoopla told Global News Thursday that it’s possible people will want to line up to be among the first in the store even days before it opens – but because of safety risks due to cold weather people won’t be allowed on the property until midnight the night before.

There will also be entertainment for the gathering crowd and an opening ceremony with guest speakers starting at 8:20 am.

The parking lot on the sprawling complex can accommodate 1620 vehicles – and IKEA says 800 shopping carts are standing by to wheel through the huge facility.
