UPDATE: Pedestrian killed after struck by vehicle on Highway 1 in Abbotsford

A pedestrian is dead after being struck by a vehicle while walking across the Trans-Canada Highway in Abbotsford Monday morning.

Police and ambulance personnel were called to the stretch of Highway 1 east of McCallum Road at 3:30 a.m., where they found a 47-year-old male victim already deceased. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.

The westbound lanes of the highway were closed between the Sumas Exit and McCallum Road for hours while the investigation was underway. The highway is now open to both directions of traffic.

RCMP are asking witnesses of the collision to contact Fraser Valley Traffic Services at 604-702-4039.
