WATCH ABOVE: It's remarkable to think that we are halfway through November and it's usually around this time, especially in the prairies when parkas are already well worn in, but today with double digits winter is feeling like a distant memory, which got Christa Dao wondering, with Christmas just over a month away, is this stay of summer stealing the holiday spirit? – Nov 13, 2016

Regina’s warm spell has been the talk of town this November, as temperatures hover in the double digits with some days rising above the 20 C mark.

But with the unusual warm spell, many Regina residents said winter feels like a distant memory.

“We’re just walking around the lake, and enjoying the weather. [It’s] crazy. Boats on the water. It’s crazy. It’s wonderful,” resident Lorrie Murphy said.

She hasn’t even started thinking about Christmas yet, she added with a laugh.

“Absolutely not! I’m still not in the Christmas mode. That won’t happen until we get some snow happening.”

Layne Yalemain, another resident agrees. He said his Christmas decorations are still on standby.

“Because it’s warm. I don’t think we’ve ever had a November like this,” Yalemain said.

While some residents said they’re not decorating yet, it’s a different story on the purchasing side. Christmas sales are actually up at Canadian Tire on North Albert Street.

According to Promotions Manager Christina Ray, the warm weather has actually had a reverse effect.

“Our sales are probably close to double what they were last year at this time,” Ray said.

She said these customers would rather decorate early in the season, when temperatures aren’t below freezing.

“A lot of people want to set up early because they’re not going to be outside in the minus 20 weather,” Ray said.

Gaylord Walker has been decorating his home for over 40 years. He said for anyone not thinking about Christmas, now is actually the best time to do so, while it’s still warm.

“I’m taking full advantage. I’m going to enjoy every day. Every day is a bonus now… much better than minus forty [degrees],” Walker said.

“But there hasn’t been too many [days] in the middle of November when it’s been this nice. It makes it way easier, as long as we get snow for Christmas.”

According to Global’s weather specialist Tiffany Lizée, the warm weather is not expected to stick around for much longer.

Temperatures are expected to drop next week.

“We have a Colorado low coming in for the end of next week, it’s going to bring cold weather and likely precipitation. As we make our way into next week and the week after that, we’re going to see temperatures around that freezing mark,” Lizée said.

“Winter is really going to start settling in.”
