A large family function at a banquet hall in Surrey got out of control Friday night after four people suffered injuries from a weapon, police say.
The altercation was reported to RCMP just before midnight. Officers arrived to find a large group in the parking lot of the Crown Palace Banquet Hall on Nordel Way, where four people were suffering from what appeared to be stab wounds.
A fifth victim, an elderly woman, was knocked down during the incident and suffered a broken arm, along with other injuries related to the fall.
All five victims were transported to hospital. None of the injuries are life-threatening.
Police say the incident started in the midst of a large family gathering inside the banquet hall, where some family members got into a dispute that later spilled outside into the parking lot. Once outside, a weapon that is believed to be a knife was produced, and the dispute turned physical.
Police say all those involved in the altercation were known to each other and had been invited to the event.
A suspect has not been identified at this time. However, witnesses are still being interviewed, and a canvas is being conducted in the area for possible video surveillance.
