It happened in the area of 36 Street and 20 Avenue N.E. at around 8:10 a.m.

Sgt. David DenRandt said a pedestrian was seen walking along the middle of the CTrain tracks.

“The train driver activated the horn and tried to stop the train but was unable to,” DenRandt said. “The person didn’t move.”

The train was travelling northbound between 16 Avenue and 20 Avenue S.E. at the time.

“It wasn’t within a normal pedestrian crossing,” DenRandt added.

EMS said the victim was taken to the Foothills Medical Centre in life-threatening condition.

The driver of the CTrain wasn’t injured, nor were any of the passengers.

Calgary Transit shut down northeast CTrains in both directions while emergency crews were on scene.
