Emergency crews were called to a house in the 100 block of Riverbend Drive S.E. at around 10:50 a.m.

When they arrived, police found a man in his 20s suffering from serious injuries in the backseat of a white BMW parked in the driveway of the home. According to EMS, the victim was declared dead at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

Global News has learned the victim was 26-year-old Kyle Rowe.

Police said a dark-coloured SUV or minivan drove away from the home after the shooting, but officers believe it was a targeted attack with no ongoing danger to the public.

“There’s some earmarks of similarities between other homicides we’ve had, but it’s still too early to determine what exactly occurred or what the motivation might have been,” Insp. Don Coleman said at an afternoon press conference.

Coleman said investigators believe the victim was a resident and added he was known to police. Global News has learned he had a previous robbery conviction from 2010.

Neighbour Stan Davison has lived in Riverbend for 26 years and said seeing the police presence was unusual.

“Bit of a shock,” Davison said.

Calgary police cordoned off a section of Riverbend Drive S.E. while they investigated.

A white BMW could be seen sitting in the driveway of a home with its doors open.

Area resident Blake Dennill said the BMW looked similar to one that had been involved in a violent incident earlier this month.

“It looks like the same kind of car that actually did a drive-by shooting two weeks ago. My son got hit in the chest by a BB gun. The guy was kind of… little bit of road rage.”

“He followed [my son] home,” Dennill said. “Pulled up and rolled the window down, yelled at him and pulled a gun and shot at him. Turns out it was a BB gun.

“This is very unusual. I’ve lived in this neighbourhood for 27 years now and nothing like this ever happens.”

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Calgary police at 403-266-1234 or contact Crime Stoppers.
