PRINCE’S LAKES, Ind. – Prince’s Lakes Police Department made a different kind of rescue Sunday when they responded to reports of a seven-year-old boy’s police-themed birthday party being ruined.

Kelly Ziegler tried to organize a birthday celebration for her son Westyn, but when none of the 25 kids invited to the party showed up, she thought it would be best to spare her son the embarrassment.
“Nobody RSVP’d, so we were afraid we’d have to cancel the party,” Ziegler told WTTV.
That’s when Officer Jeremy Elliot, who had already agreed to take Westyn for a ride in his cruiser as a birthday gift, stepped in to save the day.
“I learned of this and decided to throw him a party,” said Elliott, ” Everyone should have a party for their seventh birthday.”

Elliot called in a favour and got the police department and fire department to pitch in.
When Elliot picked Westyn up in his police cruiser Sunday morning, the birthday boy had no clue a station’s worth of officers were waiting at the town hall to celebrate.
“We like to be involved in our community,” said Elliot. “Its not just about enforcing the law, we like to be there in the good times as well.”
Thanks to the officers, Westyn was shown a good time, complete with decorations, pizza, ice cream, cake, presents, and even a pinata.
To top it off, Westyn was named an honorary officer for the day.
“There aren’t enough words to say how touched we were that all of these officers, firefighters, and friends all came out to share this day,” Ziegler wrote on social media.
