A man who pleaded guilty in a deadly hit-and-run crash more than three years ago will serve more time in jail, News Talk 770 has learned.
Rachel Wong was killed when she was hit by a vehicle while crossing the Calgary intersection of Sandstone Drive and Berkshire Boulevard in February 2013. She was then hit by a second vehicle that dragged her 50 metres before it sped away.
The crash created outrage in the city, as it’s believed several vehicles drove around the 56-year-old as she lay on the ground.
Steven Jonathan Vanasse eventually turned himself in, but not after going to a store to inquire about getting a new windshield, claiming he had hit a deer.

In November 2014, Vanasse pleaded guilty to failing to stop at the scene of a fatal collision.
He was eventually sentenced to 90 days in jail to be served intermittently and one year probation.
The Crown appealed and in a split decision, the Court of Appeal handed Vanasse a sentence of nine months in jail.
