Green P app to become available for on-street parking in Toronto

Motorists in Toronto will have the option of paying for on-street parking by using the Green P mobile app by the end of the year.

The city plans to roll out the new signage and capabilities on several downtown Toronto streets in the next couple of weeks before expanding it to the rest of the city.

Toronto Mayor John Tory said the introduction of mobile payments for on-street parking is part of the modernization of the city’s transportation services.

“This is an example of how we can modernize the services the city offers and modernize the way the city delivers them,” Tory told repoters Monday morning.

“People of Toronto are not just ready for this innovation, they are hungry for it and they want Toronto to be a leader.”

The Toronto Parking Authority said 25 per cent of the transactions for parking in Green P lots are made through the app just over a year after its launch.

The city said nearly 250,000 people in Toronto use the app.

The app is a free download for iPhone users on the App Store and Android on Google Play.
