Telus, Shaw and Bell might expect to find a letter in their mailbox in the near future. Edmonton Catholic School Trustee Larry Kowalczyk said if he can get support for it at the Alberta Catholic School Trustees Association AGM in November, they’ll be sending letters asking for TV providers to drop pay per view pornography.
Kowalczyk said it’s a “moral issue.”
“Sex is a special gift given to us, between a man and a woman, and we are to respect our bodies.”

Kowalczyk said sex is a facet of every show currently on TV.
“We just want, especially the pornography though, to be taken out of the homes of kids. We do know, it is a fact, that kids go home and they watch pornography while their parents are away. So, if it wasn’t available to the parents, then maybe it wouldn’t be available to the students as well.”
Kowalczyk said failing a full ban of cable porn, he’d like to see tighter parental controls than the typical 4 digit code that parents can toggle on to block pay per view content.
“Well, there is a safeguard, but you know, kids are so adept at figuring out those blocks.”

He suggested a technological solution to his perceived problem, though he has no suggestions as to what that technology might be before sharing an anecdote in which he says that his nephew was able to gain access to his laptop without the password.
Kowalczyk said he has “ample research” that links viewing pornography to increased violence against women and child sexual abuse.
The Annual General Meeting goes November 18th to 20th.
