Five years after Jolene Cote’s body was found at her family’s Parkland County acreage there have been no arrests or charges in the case, and the Spruce Grove teacher’s death continues to be shrouded in mystery.
Cote’s body was found the morning of Oct. 13, 2011 by her husband at their home, according to police.

The 36-year-old mother of two was last seen alive the previous evening after a soccer game at the Edmonton Soccer Centre West. She went to the Walmart on Stony Plain Road in west Edmonton, where surveillance video showed her leaving at 10:40 p.m.
The following morning, police were called to the family acreage at around 6:20 a.m. Investigators said the things Cote brought the night before were still in her 2002 silver Jeep Liberty.
Police said her death was a homicide and not a random act, but they’ve never released a cause of death or identified any suspects publicly.

In the early days of the 2011 investigation, it was reported that theft or robbery may have played a role in the attack and death of Cote, as wedding rings and a necklace belonging to her were reported missing.
Police later determined Cote was not wearing the jewelry on the night she was killed. Investigators also confirmed there wasn’t any evidence to suggest theft or robbery was a motive in the fatal attack.

In June of this year, RCMP scoured a lake near the family’s acreage. Sgt. Jack Poitras told reporters the RCMP’s Underwater Recovery Team from British Columbia wanted to make sure they hadn’t missed anything or see if there was anything in the lake with a thorough search.
The family is offering a $50,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the person or people responsible for her death.
Anyone who knew Cote, as well as members of the public, who may have information that could assist investigators are asked to contact the RCMP’s Stony Plain Detachment at 780-968-7267, or submit information anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
