Long-time Toronto city councillor Shelley Carroll is making a run for the provincial Liberal nomination in the new riding of Don Valley North.
“I have been fighting for the people of Don Valley North for more than fifteen years as a trustee and a Councillor,” Carroll said in a media release. “I know and love this community. I know its needs and its potential. It’s time for me to bring that knowledge and experience to Queens Park as a proud member of the Liberal Party.”
Carroll has been representing Ward 33 Don Valley East since 2003.
She was a Toronto District School Board trustee prior and also served as the city’s budget chief under former Toronto mayor David Miller.

Carroll currently sits as a board member for the Toronto Transit Commission and the Toronto Police Services Board.
“Liberals have a strong tradition of bringing people together and holding them up. From reducing wait times in our hospitals, to implementing full day kindergarten, to building the largest transit expansion project in the country, the Liberal government has a track record of investing in people and I am excited to be joining them in that work,” Carroll said.
Don Valley North is one of 15 new ridings up for grabs in the 2018 provincial election.
The nomination races are expected to be finalized by mid-2017.
